July 2005 Press Release

The Spirit of CJ Foundation funds an additional $9,000.00 in scholarship donations.

Press Release
July, 2005

The Trustees of the Spirit of CJ Foundation, in loving memory of CJ Carrozzella of Wallingford, are pleased to announce $9,000.00 in additional scholarship donations to Xavier High School in Middletown and to the Wallingford YMCA. The proceeds are from the 2nd Annual Spirit of CJ Foundation benefit golf tournament held on May 20, 2005, at the Tradition Golf course in Wallingford. 100 golfers participated in the scramble tournament and over 200 friends, family, and classmates attended the dinner following golf. Major sponsors included Cazman Real Estate Investment Company, tournament/dinner sponsor, and “The Lunch Club”, lunch sponsor. The foundation is grateful to the more than 30 sign and hole-in-one sponsors helping make this year’s event as successful as last year’s inaugural event. In the past two years the Spirit of CJ Foundation has made cash contributions to Xavier High School, Wallingford Little League, and Wallingford YMCA in excess of $20,000.00.

The foundation has also supported Wallingford’s Project Graduation the past two years. This year’s contributions helped establish a $10,000.00 performing arts scholarship for Xavier High School students in CJ’s memory at Xavier High School. At the time of CJ’s death he was a junior at Xavier High School having acquired a strong interest and love for break dancing as well as anything where he was able to show off his animated loving character. The Foundation contributed the balance of the proceeds from this year’s event to the Wallingford YMCA where CJ swam for the Dolphins swim team. Brother William, C.F.X., headmaster at Xavier, and Jim Scherer, Executive Director for the Wallingford YMCA each expressed their sincere appreciation for these contributions which will go a long way and make a difference in the lives of the student recipient’s. The Foundation’s mission is to keep alive CJ’s lightness of spirit, kindness of heart and deepness of soul through contributions to organizations such as Xavier, Wallingford Little League, and YMCA, which all in one way or another had an impact on CJ’s life. The Spirit of CJ Foundation is a §501©(3) tax exempt foundation, established in 2003, and funded by private donations.
